Our Journal Philanthropy

The Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy’s bi-monthly journal, ‘Philanthropy’, was conceived in 1987 as a medium to fill a communication need in the voluntary sector. What started out as an exercise in keeping readers abreast of current events and happenings, has blossomed today into a carefully researched, readers abreast of current events and happenings, has blossomed today into a carefully researched, reader-friendly journal covering news (both local and international), views, issues, programmes, laws and guidelines to effective management of voluntary organisations.

The journal is widely circulated not only among those directly connected with grant-making foundations and voluntary organisations, but also those in the corporate sector and professionals like chartered accountants and lawyers.

The journal continues to be unique from the point of view of approach, style and content. We don’t just give facts and figures. We also analyse and comment. We try to humanize and simplify philanthropy.

The journal is produced in terms of people who give the sector its direction. And we firmly believe that good management and proper understanding of legalities involved is the key to success in the philanthropic sector. Issue after issue, we cover various income-tax sections, comment on issues, news, views and, although researched in depth, they’re economically written, in plain language that everyone can understand.

The journal provides readers with the opportunity to share information and ideas with each other and explore, from the perspective of good governance, the critical issues facing not-for-profit organisations in India.

‘Philanthropy’s’ strength, over the past decade has, and continues to be, its enlightened readership. Readers constantly encourage us to explore new vistas and achieve new heights. For example, questions keep pouring in, month after month, not just regarding legal or financial problems, but also the changing face of philanthropy in this country. Most of them we answer directly in our popular column, “Readers’ Forum”. The rest provide inspiration or a base for full-length feature write-up’s

The journal’s internal strength and, for that matter, the internal strength of the Centre itself, stems from what we would like to call the four Fs – focussed articulation, flexibility, friendly attitude and the fun approach. We genuinely believe in doing more that what others expect, constantly striving, maintaining high quality standards and going the extra mile.
