MANAGEMENT OF PHILANTHROPIC ORGANISATIONS

“MANAGEMENT OF PHILANTHROPIC OFGANISATIONS” is the fourth publication in a series of popular and well-received books published by the Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy, the earlier ones being ‘Hand Book on Administration of Trusts’, The Art of Fund Raising’ and ’Investment Opportunities for Charitable Organisations’.

‘Management Of Philanthropic Organisations’ covers the historical development of philanthropy, provides vital data and statistics, covers almost all the important statutes and legislations affecting philanthropic bodies (like the Mumbai Public Trusts Act, The Income Tax Act, the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act)  and introduces, perhaps for the first time in the field of philanthropy, the concepts of “leadership” and “effective management”.  A number of important forms/proformas required for application or other procedural requirement with the Government authorities are provided in the appendix.

Recognising the fact that not every trustee happens to be a lawyer or accountant, this well-researched and comprehensive work has been developed and designed to de-mystify the laws governing charities and guide trustees, social activists and professionals to some of the main considerations involved in the set-up and management of philanthropic organisations.

The late Mr. Nani A Palkhivala, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, who has written the Foreword to this book states, “With the maddening instability of our laws which govern every walk of life, this very useful, informative and easily readable publication by the Centre, encapsulates in one place and discusses threadbare the numerous acts, sections, and countless formalities which have to be followed by any individual who would like to be involved in the worthy concept of philanthropy.  This handy reference will provide a welcome companion to the professionals and the laymen alike.  I have no doubt that ‘Management of Philanthropic Organisations’ will enjoy the wide circulation which it deserves”.
