Mr Rusi M Lala
Russi M.Lala graduated with
History Honours from Mumbai University. He took to Journalism in
1948 and entered Book Publishing in 1951. From 1959 to 1963 he established
and managed the First Book Publishing house from India in London.
In 1964 he became co-founder of Himmat weekly, which he edited for
a decade.
Two of his books a) The Creation
of Wealth b) Beyond the lost blue mountain - life of
J.R.D. Tata were best sellers. His other Books are
a) In search of leadership
b) Encounters, with the eminent
c) The joy of achievement.
After he wrote this book
he was invited to join the Sir. Dorabji Trust of which he has been
the director for over a decade.
He is Chairman of the Centre of Advancement of Philanthropy of which
he is also a co-founder.
R
R Chari -- “The Charitable Commissioner”
Mr. R. R. Chari, is an
Executive Director of the Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy.
Born in 1927 at Burma, Mr.
Chari, after completing MA in Economics from the Allahabad University
in 1949, joined the Indian Revenue Service. He started his
career as Tax Officer and worked in various positions till he was
promoted as Commissioner of Income Tax in 1978, at Mumbai.
He retired in 1985 as Commissioner in charge of Trust Circle.
In fact, he was known in the department as the “Charitable Commissioner”.
After retirement, he started practising as Tax Advisor. He
has been appointed, by UTI and other, financial institutions as
Nominee Director of various public companies.
Deeply committed to the cause
of philanthropy, after retirement he immediately associated himself
as one of the Founder-Directors of the Centre for Advancement of
Philanthropy, to assist various charitable organisations with their
tax and other related problems.
He is an ardent sports fan
and has done a great deal for the promotion of sports. He
organised the Six Nation Athletic Meet in 1982 and the International
Kabadi Tournament, in Mumbai, 1983. He is Founder-Director
of the Sports Associations of India and Member of various sports
committees.
Mr
K M Desai
Ever since his retirement
as Charity Commissioner, Maharashtra State, Mr. K. M. Desai has
been involved with the Centre as a Director. Mr Desai brings to
the centre the benefit of years of experience and valuable knowledge
in philanthropic matters. He is always available for consultations
and advice as and when required.
Mr.
Noshir H. Dadrawala
Mr. Dadrawala is Executive
Secretary of the Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy since inception.
He is a Fellow of the Center
for the Study of Philanthropy (1990) which is affiliated to the
Graduate School and University Center of the City University of
New York. He is also member of the Governing Council of the ‘Asia
Pacific Philanthropy Consortium’, representing India since March
2000.
He has presented research
papers at national and international forums. His research paper
titled “Legal Framework for Non-Profit Institutions in India” for
the Johns Hopkins University, USA, has been published by the ‘Society
for Participatory Research in Asia’ in February 2001. His ‘Country
Report’ on “NGO Laws and Regulations” has been published by the
International Center for Not-For-Profit Law (Washington, DC, and
USA).
In June 2001 he was invited
by the London School of Economics as the only Indian to participate
in the International Seminar on Charity Law.
He has authored several resource
books including, ‘Hand Book on Administration of Trusts’, The Art
of Fund-Raising’, ‘Investment Opportunities for Charitable Organizations’,
‘Management of Philanthropic Organizations’ (with a foreword by
noted jurist Mr. Nani A Palkhivala) and ‘Laws Governing Voluntary
Organizations in India’.
He also edits since 1987,
‘Philanthropy’, the journal of the Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy
and he is a regional contributing editor of the ‘International Journal
on Non-profit Law’.
Mr
Sharukh N Tara
Recently, the Centre has
also appointed a Cost Accountant, Sharukh Tara, to advise and assist
voluntary agencies in areas of financial management, budgeting,
cash flow, investments etc.
